Volvo Cars has taken a significant step towards a more sustainable and technologically advanced future with the start of production for its highly anticipated EX90 fully electric SUV. This milestone marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Swedish automaker, one focused on safety, sustainability, and human-centric innovation.
The EX90, Volvo's electric flagship SUV, rolled off the assembly line at the company's factory in Charleston, South Carolina, this week. The first customer-bound model, painted in a striking Denim Blue hue, is destined for delivery to a buyer in the United States later this year.
"The fully electric Volvo EX90 is the start of a new era for Volvo Cars – a new era for safety, sustainability and human-centric technology," said Jim Rowan, Volvo Cars' Chief Executive.
The EX90: A Paradigm Shift
Built on Volvo's next-generation, born-electric EV technology base, the EX90 represents a paradigm shift for the company. With a fully electric range of up to 480 km, the SUV is designed to be the safest Volvo car to date, powered by cutting-edge passive and active safety technology and software informed by a broad suite of sensors.
Rooted in Scandinavian design principles, the EX90 offers modern proportions optimized for safety, efficiency, and aesthetics. Its true seven-seater configuration provides ample space, versatility, and comfort, making it an ideal family companion.
At the heart of the EX90 lies a powerful core computing system that enables a breakthrough in car safety. This always-connected system allows for continuous improvement through software updates driven by artificial intelligence and real-time data collection.
The EX90 showcases Volvo's global engineering capabilities and reaffirms the company's position as a leader in the ongoing technology shift in the automotive industry.
As the first customer deliveries of the EX90 approach in the second half of 2024, Volvo Cars has embarked on a new era – one that prioritizes safety, sustainability, and human-centric technology. With the start of production for this groundbreaking electric SUV, Volvo is paving the way for a more responsible and innovative future.
