Three Reasons to Buy a Volvo XC60 Instead of a BMW X3

The XC60 just keeps getting more popular in Canada and abroad. Scandinavian engineering, advanced powertrains, and outstanding safety combine to make this SUV one of the in the midsize luxury segment.

Volvo is proud of the XC60 as it stands out among the competition. Here, we present three reasons to purchase an XC60 instead of a BMW X3.

Luxury doesn't have a high ceiling with the 2021 Volvo XC60

Each XC60 includes some of the best design and craftsmanship among SUVs. Volvo also makes this more accessible with a lower entry MSRP than the X3. The XC60 Momentum begins at just $48,500, whereas a base X3 xDrive30i increases to a starting point of $52,942 with similar power and features. And now with a $1,500 rebate, the XC60 brings even more value.

The 2021 Volvo XC60 has better powertrains

The XC60 offers three powertrain options, beginning with the T5 engine system. Standard in the Momentum, it outputs 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque with a turbo 2.0L four-cylinder. XC60 trims with the T6 feature 316 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. However, the T8-equipped XC60 offers a premium hybrid system that generates 400 horsepower and outstanding efficiency. The Polestar Engineered T8 offers even more, with a pavement-ripping 415 horsepower.

The standard X3 includes a turbo 2.0-litre with virtually the same output as the XC60 Momentum. The X3 M40i increases to 385 horsepower, but it doesn't quite catch the XC60 Recharge in power, torque, and efficiency.

The X3's xDrive30e hybrid model dives to 288 net horsepower, and Volvo's XC60 Recharge finishes ahead of it by 112 horsepower. The reduced power even comes at a cost to efficiency. The xDrive30e consumes fuel at a much faster rate with a city rating of 11.1 L/100 km, whereas the XC60 Recharge achieves a city rating of 8.7 L/100 km.

The X3 M models have a bit more power, but the efficiency goes way down, while the prices reach levels that are greatly above the XC60’s.

The 2021 Volvo XC60 has better comfort and volume

The XC60's focus on passenger volume results in more comfort for you. With 1,054 mm of generous legroom, it increases space by 30 mm over the X3. This includes a 40 mm advantage in rear leg room. The XC60 also has more shoulder room in both the front and rear seats.
