The XC90 continues to set the pace in the luxury segment with outstanding styling, impressive efficiency for its class, plenty of tech, and acclaimed safety. What more could you ask for in Volvo's flagship SUV?
The 2021 model lineup includes gas and hybrid grades that extend your possibilities. No matter how large or small your family, the XC90 also offers engine options that help meet your power needs.
The competition is trying to catch up, but the XC90 keeps moving ahead. Here, we compare the 2021 XC90 to the 2021 Audi Q7.
The 2021 Volvo XC90 wins the efficiency battle
Volvo is not only known for designing safety-minded vehicles, but is also focused on designing powertrains that have less impact on the environment. Every XC90 powertrain is more efficient than its Q7 'equivalent.'
The XC90 Recharge includes the advanced T8 Twin Engine hybrid system. It generates an outstanding 400 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque. It also achieves the best fuel consumption rating in this comparison at 9.1 / 8.4 L/100 km (city/highway).
The XC90's all-gas engine lineup starts with the T5. a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder which provides 250 horsepower. It's easy on fuel with a consumption rating of 11.5 / 8.4 L/100 km. The T6 offers a boost to 316 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.
The Q7 offers two powertrains outside of the S model. The 45 TFSI, a competitor to the XC90's T5, has a similar output, yet it has a higher consumption rating of 12.4 / 10.1 L/100 km. The Q7's 55 TFSI has a 19-horsepower increase over the XC90's T6 engine, but has a combined fuel consumption rating of 12.0 L/100 km over the T6's 10.5 L/100 km.
The Audi SQ7 features the top horsepower in this comparison. However, it comes with a starting MSRP of over $104,000 and the highest fuel consumption rating.
The 2021 Volvo XC90 is more technologically refined
The Volvo XC90’s Scandinavian-inspired interior and overall style is also part of the privileges that come with driving a Volvo. Not only does it surpass the Audi Q7, it also features more technology like the intuitive Sensus infotainment system, and the Pilot Assist driver assistance technology that helps the driver on long journeys.
