The Volvo XC60 is a very important model in the acclaimed lineup of Volvo crossovers. It features the best qualities the automaker is known for—safety, advanced powertrains, Scandinavian styling, and more. The XC60 lineup includes several grades that balance the right amount of amenities and capabilities for a wide range of drivers.
The XC60 is not without competition. Here, we compare it to the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE.
The 2021 Volvo XC60 is full of power and value
The XC60 series is gifted with three powertrain options in several grades. Available in the Momentum, the T5 engine features a turbocharged 2.0-litre that outputs 250 horsepower for a starting MSRP of $48,500. This is over $21,000 less than the entry MSRP of the base GLE 350, and the 350 only offers five more horsepower than T5-equipped XC60 trims.
The XC60's T6 powertrain increases horsepower to 316 in the R-Design and Inscription grades. Both of these vehicles have respective MSRPs of $59,300 and $61,050, which are still well below the GLE's base MSRP of $69,900. In comparison, the GLE 450 offers a 362-horsepower engine, but the starting MSRP increases to $77,900.
The GLE also has the AMG lineup. Both models offer more horsepower than what the XC60 offers, but both models have respective base MSRPs of $92,500 and $133,300. If you want a little more horsepower and performance, the price will inflate accordingly.
The 2021 Volvo XC60 has one big thing the GLE doesn't
The GLE does not have something the XC60 has: a hybrid. The 400-horsepower XC60 Recharge features the T8 engine that also provides 472 lb-ft of torque. As a matter of fact, the Recharge has better fuel efficiency than the GLE's smallest engine in the 350 with just 255 horsepower. Drivers can enjoy a highway fuel efficiency rating of 8.4 L/100 km—which is much lower than the GLE 350's 9.0 L/100 km.
And at a starting price of just under $67,000, you can have one with plenty of options for less than a GLE 450. With the additional power and fuel savings, it is an easy decision.
